Asus preps affordable 13-inch laptop with detachable OLED screen

At a time when prices for everything including laptops are rising, Asus has rolled out its first ever laptop running its 9th Gen Intel Core i9-9980HK “One Punch” processor. The 11.6-inch-display laptop has a lid, which means there is some functionality to detach the OLED display from the base to effectively create a portable tablet. (Image credit: Asus)

Even though the laptop will be of little value for money considering it is priced at Rs 52,999, other ASUS’s laptops which already have detachable displays will offer better value for money.

ASUS’s 11.6-inch laptop

ASUS’s 11.6-inch laptop has an 11.6-inch FHD IPS Full HD display which can be unhinged from the base. The display has a 3D-fingerprint sensing layer, as well as a rise to 700 nits brightness, which is good enough for bright photos. The OEM says that the display is covered in a thick sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass N1. The laptop has a 3.4mm-thick-skin over the display, which means that it is not as thin as some of the designs you see at CES 2021. In terms of connectivity, the Asus laptop features a single USB-C port, one HDMI 2.0, and two USB-A ports. The laptop features Asus’ proprietary Analogue Light System, which uses LEDs to simulate light within a physical layer, according to Asus. The laptop weighs just 2.6kg and measures 210mm x 190mm x 14mm.

Acer Vergara laptop with detachable display

Acer’s Chromebook Spin 7 Gaming 5 is another one of the best laptops that feature detachable displays and is just 18.9mm thick, which makes it have quite a slim design. The Acer Chromebook Spin 7 Gaming 5 features a removable 12.5-inch rear curved display, powered by Acer’s 3940HQ UHD touch display tech. Underneath the removable design there are Dolby Vision support, Chromium chips, and two speakers. As a result, the 15.6-inch curved screen offers rich colours as well as 360-degree sound. Acer claims that the touch panel’s ability to show up to 16.7 million different colours offers a more immersive experience. The laptop features a 120Hz panel, and the laptop weighs 2.8kgs. The laptop is available in two configurations, which are the Core i5 model and the Core i7 model.

ASUS is not the only OEM that has a detachable display laptop with the company’s 9th Gen Intel Core i9 processor powering it. Acer’s version, however, is very thin and light at 2.7kg, which is much lighter than Asus’ laptop. This laptop will offer better value for money than Asus’ one, as it will be priced at Rs 38,999 instead of Rs 52,999, but it can go up to 11,200 if buyers opt for the 512GB SSD option.
